Bye, Bye, Dr. Wolfowitz

By Chad A. B. Wilson 3 years, 3 months ago.

I have written about Wolfowitz before, and I reiterate my dislike of the guy. He was one of the primary hawks that pushed for war in Iraq, and then Bush nominated him for president of the World Bank. It was a crazy move, and I still don't really understand it. And then the business about his girlfriend came out and how he got her a raise and a new job. The Board of Directors of the World Bank was furious, of course, because the Bank is a symbol of aiding the poor--that's the organization's mission, after all. An aid organization should be the most ethical, especially when one of the things it does is tries to ensure that countries it loans to act ethically. That has been one of its major tents. In order to receive funds from the World Bank, a country must demonstrate a form of ethical democracy. And here the president of that organization has broken the big rule. How can he take the speck out of his brother's eye when there is a log in his own?

Iraq, 9/11, and the Second Republican Debate

By Chad A. B. Wilson 3 years, 3 months ago.

The Republican debate of May 15, 2007 featured some great stuff. Some memorable lines, some provocative hypothetical situations, and some prying on the part of the Fox News moderators. Each one brought up Ronald Reagan, and he was the measure of all things conservative; each candidate tried to say that he would be the most like Reagan.

That Militant Mouse: The Irony and Danger of "The Pioneers of Tomorrow"

By Chad A. B. Wilson 3 years, 3 months ago.

Try googling "Tomorrow's Pioneers" or "Farfour," and you will find links to videos about a Palestinian TV show that runs on Al-Aqsa, a Hamas-operated Palestinian television network. I don't just want to rehash everything about this because details on the show can be found anywhere; instead, I want to concentrate on two things: irony and language.

The Texas 10% Rule

By Chad A. B. Wilson 3 years, 4 months ago.

The Texas legislature passed a law to cap the controversial 10% law. This is the law passed in response to the ruling that made affirmative action illegal as a reason to admit a student to a Texas school. Therefore, Texas passed this 10% law, which said that any Texas student in the top 10% of his or her graduating high school class will automatically be admitted to the first state school of his or her choice.

Money in Iraq

By Chad A. B. Wilson 3 years, 4 months ago.

I'm waiting to see what the House is going to do next. The spending bill to bring the troops home by a date was passed, vetoed, and then not passed. What will they do now? The Democrats are saying two things: one, the people want the troops home, so they will do everything they can to do that; two, it's time for Bush to compromise.
